The Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Choruses is a choral organization for young people which seeks to promote excellence in singing and appreciation of music from all around the world. As an official affiliate of the Grand Rapids Symphony, the choruses are featured in three or more concerts with the symphony each year. Collaborating with professional musicians teaches our young singers to aspire to their highest level of musicianship.
This is a tuition based program, ranging from $400-$575 based on which choir, for the nine-month season.
Choirs Grouped by Age and Experience
The Prelude Chorus is comprised of our youngest members, who are in grades 1–3. Here they begin to learn about tone and sight reading notes.
The Junior Youth Chorus is for singers in grades 4–6. In this chorus, more sight reading is practiced, in addition to two-part singing.
Our flagship ensemble, the Youth Chorus, is comprised of singers from 7th grade through high school. This group learns a large amount of repertoire, and makes appearances in professional concerts several times a year. In our GRSYC “stand alone” concerts, all the choirs sing individually as well as together. These concerts feature music from all around the world, as we seek to educate our singers about other cultures. We believe that all people are more alike than different, and together we can make the world a more beautiful place.
